LD Tuttle Colonial Madness Strappy Boot - Urban Outfitters

the short trench

Step One: Start with a vintage trench. One with cool flaps and nice epaulets.

Step Two: Rip out the God awful shoulder pads that will probably be in it. Use a seam ripper, not scissors so you can re-stitch later.

Step Three: Figure out where you want it to hit and then get the scissors. Line it up straight on the floor and chop carefully.

Step Four: Once its cut, hang it up on a closet and trim it so its even. At this point you can pin it and hem it properly, or you can be like me and keep it frayed. Every three or four inches I made a small stitch it hold it in place.

Step Five: Voila! It's uneven and a little messy but I like it just fine. Reminds me of the CDG one from the inspiration above.

Add some old shoe buckles, make some epaulets and you've got your utility jacket and cropped trench all in one. Love.

I am absolutely in love with this top. But I cant justify actually buying it. So I made it!

Step 1: Take a vintage poly-blend top. If its a button down, put it backwards. Try it on and draw a line from one shoulder, to the under the other arm. Take the shirt off, and cut it. Messy is okay.

Step 2: Fold over a quarter of an inch and sew a hem. Once this is done, try it on.

Step 3: In my case, this diva shirt is better off sans bows, but I'm going to look for better more nude colored top that I can bow.

Try the bow look on the other arm that you cut off. Cut right up the arm. Then, cut slits down the arm and once you have the strips, tie them. Voila, Chloe blouse. For an added bow effect, use the excess fabric from the cut off sleeve and make bigger better bows.

Marjorie Merriweather Post

Heiress to the Post cereal fortune. Visiting her home in DC was amazing. I have never seen so many special colors and pieces. Her collection of Russian icons and glass rhinestone medallions were inspiring. Her house was filled with the most incredible and valuable objects. It's hard to find images of it online, but look at her chic self. If that's not me at age 70 then I'm not sure what is..
